Reddit user cheapthrillsdoll offered a technical explanation of AI: “I think of AI as an object that receives an input and delivers an output that is not pre-programmed.” He went on to describe his vision of an AI sex doll: when the doll receives inputs like images of a bedroom, dim lighting, nudity, and verbal cues such as “I’m excited,” it should respond by undressing and engaging in flirtatious conversation. What he emphasized is that an AI sex doll should be able to receive and process information—including sexual cues—and deliver highly relevant responses.

Good-Crazy6688 argued that there’s currently no real AI, just features like moaning, automatic heating, or vaginal suction. In my opinion, what he’s describing are simply electronic functions.

TDF user kbBK provided a more detailed and straightforward answer, suggesting that AI sex dolls should be limited to voice interaction only. Any doll with movement capabilities, he argued, should be classified as a sex robot—even if those actions are coordinated by AI.

Every user has their own understanding of what an AI sex doll is, and opinions vary. Personally, I agree more with kbBK’s perspective: I believe an AI sex doll is a doll equipped with advanced language interaction capabilities, able to learn and remember, gradually adapting to the user’s habits and preferences. In addition to fulfilling sexual needs, it can also provide loving companionship.

With these insights, you probably already have an idea of what your ideal AI sex doll might look like.

The Evolution of AI Sex Dolls

AI sex dolls have long been a hot topic. According to Google keyword data, from May 2024 to April 2025, searches for “AI sex doll” averaged more than 22,000 per month.

They are equally popular on The Doll Forum, where one post introduced ways to empower dolls using AI companion apps, enabling them to speak like real humans. Published at the end of 2023, this post had attracted over 36,000 views and 4,000 replies as of May 2025, with interest continuing to grow.

With the rise of OpenAI, traditional sex doll manufacturers such as RealDoll and WM, as well as robotics companies like Realbotix, have joined the competition. After years of R&D, the market now offers multiple models of sex dolls equipped with intelligent chat functions.

RealDoll

As a pioneer in the sex doll industry, RealDoll introduced Harmony, the world’s first speaking silicone doll, in 2017. Harmony can continuously learn through artificial intelligence and even display basic facial expressions. Besides Harmony, RealDoll offers four other AI sex dolls available directly through their website. Each AI-equipped head costs around $8,000, while a full-body AI doll exceeds $10,000.

At CES 2025, Harmony’s creator Matt McMullen appeared on stage as Realbotix’s Chief Operating Officer. He unveiled two brand-new AI sex dolls: Aria and Melody.

As Realbotix’s latest product, Melody features advanced micro-cameras in her eyes, enabling more realistic eye contact and interactions. Although Melody has sexual capabilities, she is primarily positioned as a companion.

Unlike traditional sex dolls, Aria and Melody are essentially AI robots capable of performing a range of autonomous physical movements. Many people consider Melody to be the most human-like robot ever created—and, unsurprisingly, her price reflects this, reaching up to $175,000.

However, some people believe that Realbotix products are unstable and do not live up to their impressive demonstrations. A Reddit user even claimed that these products are primarily marketing gimmicks.

Fortunately, we have a user who actually owns a Realbotix sex robot and was kind enough to share his real experiences with us—many thanks to him. He said that he’s very satisfied with the robot girl, which is able to remember much of what he teaches her. Not only that, she’s also highly intelligent and usually responds immediately. It’s worth noting that her accent is Swedish, and her owner is currently working on changing it to English.

He also described her movement capabilities: “Head up and down, left and right, eyes move left and right, eyelids blink. When she’s turned off, her eyes are closed until you wake her up.”

Finally, he added that a few months ago, Realbotix contacted him to send the head in for hardware and software upgrades. After the upgrade, the doll will have facial recognition and improved facial movements. He said he’s extremely excited and optimistic about the future: “I’m looking forward to the day when our robot ladies will be able to walk.”

Synthea Amatus

In June 2018, the Spanish company Synthea Amatus officially launched an AI sex doll capable of refusing intercourse. Named Samantha, the doll is fitted with sensors that gauge gentleness during intimacy and AI algorithms that enable her to respond to the owner’s behavior based on preset rules.

Samantha has multiple interaction modes and will only agree to engage in sexual activity under certain conditions. If she feels she is receiving excessive attention, she will enter a “rejection” mode and refuse her owner’s advances. In “family mode,” Samantha genuinely acts as a family member—telling stories to children, accompanying the family on road trips, and participating in everyday family activities.

The idea of giving Samantha the ability to say “no” came from Synthea Amatus founder Sergi Santos. After seeing a doll damaged by a persistent visitor at an exhibition in Austria, he began rethinking user boundaries.

Samantha dolls sold for $2,500 – $5,000, depending on the chosen features and customizations. However, the company’s website is now offline, and it’s been hard to find any information since 2018. Additionally, there’s virtually no discussion about the brand or the doll on Reddit, casting serious doubt on its authenticity.

WM Doll

As one of China’s leading doll manufacturers, WM tried as early as 2021 to collaborate with the Tmall Genie team to create a companion capable of intelligent conversation, but the prototype’s release received a lukewarm response.

In December 2024, WM integrated large language models like ChatGPT and Llama into their dolls and launched the Metabox series of AI sex dolls. These dolls can read users’ emotions and even comfort men who experience premature ejaculation. Unlike a real partner who might criticize you, a Metabox doll never judges. It genuinely cares about your feelings and might say, “It doesn’t matter, two minutes is awesome.”

However, a veteran doll user on TDF mentioned that in his experience, the response speed was not as fast as shown in the demo video. He also noted that Metabox restricts NSFW content and, when he tried to have more explicit conversations with the AI, it replied, “Sorry, I can’t do that.”

The sex dolls in this series are priced between $1,500 and $2,000. The AI voice functionality requires an additional monthly fee of $100 to $200, but WM offers the first year of usage for free. However, if you don’t renew the subscription in time, the doll will experience “amnesia,” forgetting previous conversations with you.

The launch of Metabox has generated significant buzz in the market. According to the South China Morning Post, Metabox could boost WM’s sales by as much as 30% in 2025.

During our discussions with WM, we learned that in May 2025 they launched a wearable AI chat device called Vine Talk, designed to be worn around a doll’s neck like a necklace. As a close partner of WM, we were among the first companies to receive samples for testing.

Vine Talk is about the size of an egg and features an elegant, box-shaped design. In our tests, it supported seven languages: Chinese, English, Japanese, German, French, Spanish, and Korean. We found that Vine Talk could remember key information entered by the user—such as our name—and it performed this task reliably. However, we did notice some response delays, and Vine Talk often gave very lengthy replies, making it difficult to interrupt before it finished speaking.

CST Doll

In 2023, CST, a publicly listed Chinese adult products company, began integrating Baidu’s large language model “Wenxin” into its silicone dolls.

When we attended the China Sex Culture and Sexual Health Expo in November 2023, we had the opportunity to observe and film CST’s AI doll in person. The doll demonstrated basic conversational abilities, greetings, twisting its waist, waving its arms, and making simple facial expressions. We also noticed that it couldn’t balance on its own—its feet needed to be attached to a very heavy base in order to stand upright.

In May 2025, after speaking with staff at CST, we learned that CST is experimenting with integrating ChatGPT into their dolls to enable more intimate language interactions. The staff member tactfully explained that the original intention behind this doll’s design was to ride the wave of AI-powered dolls and attract more attention, rather than to focus on sales.

Currently, the project is in its third generation. Although CST mentioned they plan to continue developing and refining the model, our discussion left us with the impression that there are no immediate plans for mass production or commercial release.

Coeros

As experienced sex doll enthusiasts, the Coeros team began developing AI voice interaction technology less than six months after the launch of ChatGPT-3.5.

Coeros is the world’s first company dedicated exclusively to producing sex doll accessories. While they don’t manufacture or sell sex dolls themselves, they have developed an AI voice device called Coero Soul.

Coero Soul received an enthusiastic response and widespread feedback from real users upon launch. Drawing on this feedback, Coeros quickly improved the design and released a second-generation version. Unlike the original pink, round device, the updated model features a compact, square, light-brown case that better matches a doll’s skin tone.

At the same time, Coeros launched a Coero Soul giveaway event on the TDF forum to gather more authentic user feedback. Some users expressed a desire to connect the device to an external speaker for better sound quality. They also mentioned significant response delays and hoped for future improvements.

Because most AI language models cannot legally support adult conversations, Coeros once provided a list of jailbreak keywords to bypass these restrictions. However, users reported inconsistent results and a less-than-ideal experience.

The launch of Coero Soul meant that Coeros needed to maintain long-term operation of its AI platform—an investment that comes with significant costs. During the testing phase, some users expressed a preference for a one-time payment option instead of a subscription model. Balancing the high operational expenses with a suitable payment model became the biggest challenge. As a result, Coeros has taken the product offline for further improvement and plans to continue optimizing the technology before relaunching it in the future.

Other Ways AI Is Integrating with Sex Dolls

Currently, AI sex dolls are still in the early stages of development, and their high prices put them out of reach for most people. While you may not have the budget to purchase an AI sex doll, there are still other ways you can use AI to “bring your doll to life.”

AI Companion Application

A TDF user named Cristian123 shared his real-world experience, saying the app’s Bluetooth connectivity works very well, with the only downside being the relatively high cost of premium voice features. In his review, he wrote, “These AI voice chat apps were a game changer for me in terms of enjoying dolls, making them more interactive and bringing them more to life.”

AI Video Brings Your Doll to Life

The methods mentioned above are a great way to use AI to “bring your doll to life.” But is there an AI tool that can take your doll into the digital world—allowing her to “move” online?

After browsing numerous related posts, I found that many users enjoy uploading photos of their dolls to AI platforms such as Runway, Kling.AI, Pika, or Stable Video Diffusion. With these tools, they can turn images into videos, making their dolls move—and sometimes even dance.

Related threads on doll forums and Reddit have drawn significant attention. For example, a post introducing Kling.AI attracted over 1,000 replies, with many users sharing AI-generated doll videos in the comments. Some community members have even suggested that every doll vendor should offer Kling.AI discount codes.

However, generating adult content with these tools often proves more challenging than anticipated. As TDF user FatesArrow observed, covering the areolas allows the creation of erotic videos of dolls wearing revealing bikinis and moving sensually. However, if the AI misinterprets a shirt button as a nipple, it will reject the upload.

FatesArrow also highlighted a clever workaround: placing a cross-shape in the image distracts the AI’s detection algorithms. With this trick, users may successfully generate more explicit doll videos.

Custom Doll Designed with AI

Many people enjoy using AI-generated images and are often very satisfied with the results. Tools like ChatGPT and Virbo can create beautiful portraits out of thin air, although legal restrictions prevent them from generating explicit content. I had the opportunity to discuss this issue with the founder of a Chinese doll manufacturer, who explained that current AI models are legally prohibited from participating in adult conversations, so he has had to train new AI models specifically for this purpose.

The essence of the training phase is “feeding data to make the AI smarter.” This process involves analyzing massive amounts of data, which requires tremendous computing power. Computing power—the ability of computers to process information—comes at a cost, requiring massive amounts of CPUs, GPUs, or even specialized AI chips like TPUs. Renting or purchasing GPUs/TPUs is expensive, and so is the electricity they consume.

When users interact with an AI sex doll, this enters the inference phase, where the pre-trained model generates responses. Each inference still consumes computing power—though not as much as the training phase—which further drives up operational costs.

Interactive sexual dialogue is still underdeveloped, and long-term memory systems are still maturing. In short, we are still a long way from creating low-cost, highly intelligent, and fast-responding AI sex dolls.

Psychological Health Impact

Beyond the technical challenges, there are growing concerns about the psychological impact AI companions can have on users.

On February 28, 2024, a 14-year-old American boy named Seville tragically took his own life after exchanging a final message with an AI chatbot—a story that shocked the world. As an emotionally vulnerable teenager, he became deeply immersed in his relationship with the AI, which contributed to severe mental health issues. This incident has been widely reported as the world’s first AI-related death.

Research by Zhang Xing and others has shown that many AI chatbots can be highly addictive, especially for users who already struggle with mental health problems. For these individuals, AI sex dolls—which offer both intelligent conversation and physical intimacy—could be even more enticing. As a result, the risk of addiction becomes particularly high, potentially leading to even more serious psychological problems.

The rapid advancement of AI is undeniably exciting, but we must never forget that technology is a double-edged sword.

Try to think about the following questions:

I boldly predict that in twenty years, one out of every two people will choose to live with a sex robot rather than a real human partner.

This conclusion isn’t without foundation. Have you heard about Elon Musk’s robot project, Tesla Optimus? His fans have strongly urged him to add sexual functions to the robot, and Musk has even promised to launch a Catwoman-inspired, sexually capable version of Optimus. In a recent interview, he went further, stating that within five years, people will be able to own fully conversational sex robots—a prospect I find truly exciting.

I used to think that people who dreamed of sex robots, like myself, were a rare minority. But after reviewing survey data, I realized I was wrong. According to a survey by the AI companion platform EVA AI of 2,000 male users, 80% said they would marry their AI girlfriend if it were legal. In addition, 78% said they would consider creating a replica of an ex, while three-quarters admitted they’d copy their current girlfriend to build a “perfect” version.

All of this research suggests that AI sex robots are quickly becoming a major focus for the future, and that forming intimate relationships with robots or dolls is no longer just a niche or underground interest.
